CYCLE OF STUDY
Math in Science

This Cycle of Study is provided to help students perform the many and various math computations and graphing that are commonplace in Science. Students should use the information and activities  to solidify their understanding of key math concepts, as they are brought to life in science. Students should also refer to this information as they engage topics and questions throughout the Integrated Biology text and Active Learning Activities (ALA’s).

What You Will Learn

Learn more about:

  • Equations
  • Functions
  • Statistics
  • Exponents
  • Non-linear Functions
  • Geometry

You may review these topics in this order or pick-&-choose the topics you or your instructor determine would be most beneficial. This manual presents information in the following sequence:

  1. Content sections that introduce and explain concepts
  2. Active Learning Activities to reinforce concepts and promote application to problems
  3. Answers to the Sections Review questions

Content sections are structured the same way as your textbook; each section begins with Big Ideas to help you focus on key concepts. This organization of materials promotes active learning, as you explore the material in these sections as a way to learn independently. This specific material may or may not appear directly in class, but it is highly recommended you refer to these sections as you encounter related material during the course.

Learning the material independently from class instruction does not mean you have to do it alone! Feel free to work together, collaborate with other students, and confirm or refine your understanding of core topics
