This cube is a composite of all three options that were assigned to you and your group. Examine this cube and you will discover that the information on the bottom is … a burping unicorn! Were you expecting a “right” answer? The problem is: that’s not how science works. When you worked to gather data, asked questions within your group and formed a hypothesis, you were doing science.

Scientists ask questions (testable questions) about the world and gather data from observations and experiments. Generally speaking, the more data one can collect, the stronger the proposed explanation will be. Scientists look for patterns in the data and try to make predictions from these patterns. Data either supports the proposed explanation (hypothesis) or it refutes it. Science never actually proves anything – instead, it simply gathers data and then determines if that data supports a hypothesis or not.

Until we can actually see the bottom of the cube, we can only make inferences (logical conclusions based on data) about what the bottom of the cube will look like.
